The Journey that Shaped my Approach

My path to this work was forged through personal experience.

In 2017, I experienced a serious workplace incident while working as a practical nurse in a rural healthcare setting. This event revealed to me how quickly systems can fail when the caliber of available resources don’t match workplace demands.

The aftermath changed everything for me. I discovered that despite my employer's significant investment in support programs and qualified case managers, these systems weren't equipped to help people truly recover and thrive. I witnessed the real-life costs of these gaps—both human and financial.

This led me to bridge from nursing into applied workplace health sciences, focusing on what actually sustains wellness for people and organizations. This is when I realized my perspective was distinctly different from my peers and highly-esteemed professors—I knew something was missing from the traditional approach and I became obsessed with synthesizing research concepts that supported what I saw.

What drives me today is having stood on both sides—as a healthcare provider and as someone navigating broken systems. I’ve seen how deeply this work impacts real humans. This unique perspective shapes everything I do.
