In 2017, while working as a practical nurse in a rural healthcare setting, I experienced a serious workplace incident I was not prepared for.
It showed me just how quickly well-intentioned systems can unravel when the resources on the ground don’t match the complexity of what’s unfolding. It was a moment that reshaped not only my career, but how I understood the ripple effects leaders face when the stakes are this high. -

The cracks weren’t just in how recovery was handled, but in how risk was misunderstood, how prevention was under-resourced, how leaders weren’t provided the tools to respond. I witnessed—and experienced—the real costs of these gaps.
